《揽工调》是流传在陕北米脂的传统民歌小调，平实生动的歌词语言，深沉朴素的音乐旋律，表现了昔日穷苦百姓对苦难生活的愤懑倾诉。新版《揽工调》对词曲进行了去芜存菁的加工编改而成。

Subtly revised and arranged in both text and music, the version in this anthology is enriched and refined in melody, form and significance.
