4 Conclusion

MRT believes that it is of great strategic significance for a rising state to win international support. As there will naturally be opposition to the rise of any major power, the security strategy for a rising state should first decrease international opposition and then try to win as much international support as possible. In order to minimize the resistance against a rise, MRT proposes that the rising state should follow the strategic approach of expanding its interests in emerging areas and timely adjusting its foreign strategy according to the changes of its national strength in related areas. A good reputation is a strategic asset for a successful rise; therefore MRT argues that the rising state should stay away from the disturbance of “fake, exaggerated and empty”slogans in its foreign policies, which damage its international strategic reputation. The political leadership of a rising state is the major factor determining the country's ability to formulate foreign strategies that facilitate its rise. When the government provides political leadership that is in constant reform and opening-up, it can narrow the strength gap with the dominating country quicker and shorten the process of its rise. For the contemporary rise of China, MRT believes that there are better lessons in failures than successes from case studies on the role of morality.

Currently, there are a number of discussions in academia concerning the prevention of the “Thucydides trap” . MRT is confident that the Thucydides trap is outdated in the nuclear era. Nuclear weapons prevent direct wars between the US and the USSR in Cold War and it can also prevent direct wars between China and the US after the Cold War. From the perspective of MRT, the most probable trap for the rise of China is the ultra-left trap, as opposed to the Thucydides trap, because the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has already been significantly sabotaged once by the ultra-left doctrine during the Cultural Revolution. We have learned from the past that it is necessary to prevent the ultra-left doctrine from strangling the rise of China, which is the greatest event in international politics in the 21stcentury. It is in the interest of the Chinese people to achieve a successful rise; therefore studies on China's international strategic security should focus on how to prevent security risks and the premature termination of its rise.
